Greek Grades 1–3: παιδιkοι’ – paidikoi [For the Young Ones]

Required Textbook:  Elementary Greek Koine for Beginners, Year One Textbook (Greek and English Edition). Finally, a Greek text that’s both simple and substantial! Designed to be used as a full course for teaching young children, Elementary Greek may also serve as a self-teaching program for teens and adults. No previous knowledge is necessary and each concept is covered thoroughly and reviewed regularly throughout the course. Thirty weeks of daily lessons in the textbook insure a complete school year of brief, incremental lessons with no additional planning. The student workbook provides practice and application at each step of the way. An audio companion CD is available to aid in pronunciation of individual letters, words, grammar paradigms and passages. The set also includes flashcards that cover every vocabulary word used in the text.

 

Greek Grades 4–6: μαθητικοι’ – mathetikoi [For the Eager Students]

Required Textbook: Greek for Children Primer A Understandable, engaging, creative, and in-depth, Greek for Children Primer A will introduce your students to Koine Greek. Why Greek? Like Latin, Koine Greek will aid students in critical thinking and help them to develop a strong understanding of grammar. Many English words are derived from ancient Greek, and students will especially see the benefits of learning Greek when studying science and medicine. Last, but hardly least, Koine Greek is the language of the New Testament, and the study of the original language will gradually unveil the richness, depth, and beauty of the New Testament message. Greek for Children Primer A (Student Edition) contains 32 weekly chapters, including 4 chapters on the Greek alphabet and 5 review chapters. Each chapter begins with a memory page, presenting the chant and vocabulary for the week’s lesson. Clear explanations of grammar are integrated into every chapter and written at the student’s reading level. Weekly worksheets and quizzes help students practice and retain vocabulary and grammar concepts.

 

Greek Grades 7–9: (iepoi’ – heroi [For the Amazing Ones]

Required Textbook: New Testament Greek for Beginners & Αγον text via pdf.  This book is intended primarily for learners who are beginning the study of the Greek Testament either without any previous acquaintance with the Greek language or with an acquaintance so imperfect that a renewed course of elementary instruction is needed. This revision, over seventy-five years since the first edition was published, retains much of the character and organization of the first edition while accommodating readers today who lack an understanding of Greek and grammar necessary for fully comprehending the original edition. For an introduction to the Greek Testament. Lack of previous study of classical Attic prose need bar no honest student from acquiring the ability to read the easier Greek of the New Testament. This book is an instruction book about Greek, rather than a descriptive grammar. Because of that, all the grammar content been made subservient to the imparting of a reading acquaintance with the Greek language. Just those explanations are introduced which the author’s fifteen years of experience in teaching New Testament Greek has shown to be necessary and the explanatory parts are supplemented by abundant exercises.

 

Classical Greek 1:  Grades 9-12

Required Textbook: An Introduction to Ancient Greek, Volume 1 by Robert Williamson and Alfred Mollin An Introduction to Ancient Greek, Volume 1 For the first year of Classical Greek classes, live classes will meet weekly, 30 weeks, beginning the first week of September (see the posted Academic Schedule for holidays) on the same day and time each week, for a one-hour-live class. At that class the tutor will: explain the assignment for the coming week; answer your questions and perhaps pose some; note and address any problems or difficulties noticed in the prior week’s work; and lead a brief discussion of the topic at hand. These are rather informal and friendly live tutoring sessions. Students will be introduced to basic Greek grammar in a manner facilitating the early introduction of substantial and philosophically rich passages from Heraclitus Aeschylus, Xenophon, Aristotle, Euclid and especially Plato, each containing vocabulary, discussion and exercises to aid in retention and reinforcement.

Greek 1 through 4 are offered as two-hour sessions on Fridays.

Classical Greek 2:  Grades 9-12

Required Textbook: An Introduction to Ancient Greek, Volume 1 by Robert Williamson and Alfred Mollin For the second year of Classical Greek classes, live classes will meet weekly, 30 weeks, beginning the first week of September (see the posted Academic Schedule for holidays) on the same day and time each week, for a one-hour-live class.
