Angelicum At-a-Glance
The Angelicum Academy was designed from its start in A.D. 2000 to be a one-stop, complete education provider, using modern technology delivery where appropriate, for all levels–from nursery through 12th grade –of all subjects part of a classical curriculum, oriented towards the culminating study of the Great Books of Western civilization in the high school years, resulting in an Associate’s degree and/or a Bachelor’s degree by the end of 12th grade, as was the norm through the High Middle Ages at Catholic universities until the 20th century.

| Greats Honors Program | 9th-12th | This is our online, asynchronous high school program which utilizes the in-depth lectures of the Great Courses Plus, available 24/7 presented by world-class Professors from prestigious colleges and universities, combined with Angelicum assignments and assessments after each lecture, and our live mentors. When combined with our Great Books Program, this program includes all other courses needed for the Angelicum Academy Honors diploma. | |
| Great Books Program (for high school or college credit) | 9th and up | This is the our renowned, 4-year Great Books program for grades 9-12. In it students follow in the footsteps of students in the classical age of ancient Greece and Rome, reading the greatest works to that time, added to over the subsequent centuries with later great books, right up to our time. The readings begin with the Iliad and Odyssey by the ancient Greek poet Homer, the “Father of Western civilization,” and other ancient Greek classics, followed the next year by the greatest classics of ancient Rome, then of the Middle Ages, followed the 4th year by the greatest literary masterpieces of the Modern period. The students meet online each week for a two-hour, Socratic discussion (not lectures) of the weekly reading, guided by two moderators. Students submit two essays and take an oral exam each semester. Over the four-year program students read over 100 Great Books and discuss them in 240 hours of lively, Socratic discussions. | |
| COLLEGE CREDIT TRACK PROGRAMS | College Credits | The following programs have been reviewed and recommended by the American Council for Education for 6 college credits per semester, 48 total for the 4-year Great Books program; and 3 credits for each of the four Theology Online courses. 60 credits in total. Several colleges and universities have formally agreed to accept these credits, and have done so for many years, as have many others without formal agreements. | |
| Theology Online Course | 3 credits per course | 11th and up | These four theology courses were prepared for the Angelicum Academy by Fr. Joseph Fessio, Th.D., the founder of Ignatius Press and a former student of Pope Benedict XVI. Each asynchronous course is for three credits, and include 24 recorded lectures each (95 in total) by Fr. Fessio. Students read two or three theology works (eg. by Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Pope Benedict XVI, inter alia) with a mid-term and a final. |
| Great Books Program Course | 12 credits per year | 9th and up | The Angelicum 4-year Great Books Program may be enrolled in one year at a time, for 12 college credits per year. This approach alone does not result in an AA degree. The Great Books college credit tracks require (in addition to that described for the high school track), longer essays and modest weekly written answers to questions regarding the weekly reading, graded by the Academy. |

| Great Books Program BA Degree | 9th and up | Bachelor of Arts degrees (BA) usually require 120 credits. 60 of which may be earned from the Angelicum Academy, and up to 30 more from our partner colleges and universities, in one of the tracks described above. The final 30 must be taken from a cooperating college or university accepting the said 90 credits, such as CIU or UST, inter alia. |
