Associate of Arts in General Studies

The Angelicum Academy and the University of St. Thomas-Houston are excited to partner and offer Angelicum Academy students an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Studies. From the Angelicum Academy, students receive 45 credit hours from Angelicum’s renowned Great Books program or Theology Online courses, thereby formed in the tradition of Western thought and taught to think deeply and critically about great ideas. From UST, students take 15 credit hours in liberal arts study, with specific courses in English, Philosophy, Political Science, and Math. Upon the completion of this Associate’s degree, students are equipped with timeless wisdom from the authors of the Great Books and are ready either to begin a career or pursue additional education or specialization in a particular field of study.

This 100% online degree program results in Angelicum Academy students receiving UST’s Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies degree. Any 45 hours of Angelicum Great Books or Theology Online credits satisfy the UST45-credit core requirement for an AA in Liberal Studies. Students earn the remaining 15 credits (of the 60 total required for an AA degree) by completing 5 UST courses that a student selects from the following set of UST core courses in English, Philosophy, Political Science, and Math:

A Sample Angelicum-UST AA Degree plan may be found and printed HERE.

Students can easily move into a four-year bachelor’s degree at UST with this AA in Liberal Studies degree with most of the courses transferrable. Angelicum Academy students that take 48 Great Books credits and 12 Theology Online credits (60 credits total) can transfer those credits towards a BA with UST. If Angelicum Academy students transfer in 60 credit hours to UST and complete these three UST courses: PHILC 1301, PHILC 2301, and ENGLC 1301, as part of the 15 UST credits required for the UST AA degree in Liberal Studies, the remaining UST core courses they would need to complete for a BA degree are:

•             LS 1301 Foundations of Liberal Learning

•             HISTC 1301 History of Western Culture and Civilization

•             THEOC 1301 Faith, Reason, and Revelation

•             PHILC 3301 Metaphysics (pre-requisite PHILC 2301)

[Completing the 45 Angelicum-offered credits and the 15 UST credits required for the AA degree, plus the other 15 Angelicum-offered credits, equals 75 college credits. Taking the four UST courses above would result in a total of 87 credits.]

UST requires that the final 36 credit hours for any Bachelor’s degree must be taken in residence at the University, in Houston.
